Hi, I'm Monty
I’m Monty. Welcome to My World!
I take people on holidays for a living.
More specifically, I’m a Tour Director, which means I spend most of my year on the road, guiding coachloads of curious (and occasionally lost) travellers around Europe and Ireland. If there’s a castle, cathedral, battlefield or brewery involved—I’ve probably been there, explained it, and lost at least one guest near it.
Before this, I spent 30 years as a police officer, which was excellent training for managing lost passports, minor coach mutinies, and the emotional rollercoaster of group travel.
Apparently, I have a calming voice. Some guests find my commentary deeply interesting. Others claim it’s the only thing that’s helped them sleep through German autobahns. I don’t take offence. If you’re relaxed and learning something, I call that a win.
When I’m not leading tours, I’m in a campervan with my wife, Avrina, exploring the bits of Europe that don’t fit neatly into a schedule—and eating too much cheese in places that don’t accept credit cards.

About My Blog
The Euro Traveller is where I gather the stories, lessons, and little surprises that come from life on the road. This site is a mix of:
-
Blog posts: Travel tales, musings, odd encounters, and behind-the-scenes moments from the front seat of a coach or the back lane of a village you’ve never heard of.
-
Tips & Advice: No waffle, no sales pitch—just practical travel guidance for real people. What to pack. Where to eat. How to not get ripped off. And how to survive group travel with your dignity intact.
-
Audio stories: For the many lovely people who’ve said “You should record this”—I’ve started doing just that. Calm, engaging travel stories you can listen to on a walk, over coffee, or while you try to remember why you booked a 6am flight to Naples.
This site isn’t trying to make you jealous. It’s not filtered to death. It’s here to share Europe in all its beauty, eccentricity, and occasional plumbing problems—with honesty, humour, and a bit of heart.
Whether you’re planning your next big trip or just want a good story, I’m glad you’re here.
Monty
